Clubs and organizations are a great way to help develop character and the skills that will benefit you in school, your career, and in life. Skills like commitment, leadership, effective communication, and being able to work successfully in a group all come from participating in a club or organization. Joining a club is a great way to make friends, develop leadership skills, and boost your college resume.
Riverland Elementary’s Speech and Debate Club offers fifth grade students an exciting opportunity to develop confidence, public speaking skills, and critical thinking. Through participation in county-wide tournaments, students perform original or interpretive speeches, learning how to engage and captivate an audience with strong delivery, timing, and stage presence. Club members select a piece to memorize and present, gaining experience in performance and persuasive communication. Weekly meetings focus on speech preparation, memorization strategies, and peer collaboration, helping students grow into articulate, thoughtful communicators—ready to shine both on stage and in everyday life.
The Debate Club meets every Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Room 224.
SAVE Promise Club
Riverland Elementary’s SAVE Promise Club empowers students in grades 3–5 to create a safer and more inclusive school environment. As part of the national Sandy Hook Promise initiative, the club encourages kindness, inclusion, and leadership through student-led activities and campaigns that promote respect and prevent social isolation. Members of the SAVE Promise Club work together to build a culture of connectedness, helping every student feel seen, heard, and valued. Through projects, events, and peer engagement, students learn how to be upstanders and make a positive impact in their school and community.
